Shanghai Institute of Technology (SIT) is well known for research and development of fragrance flavor and cosmetics technology. With doctoral program in fragrance flavor and cosmetics technology,SIT has been selected as high-level local university listed by Shanghai municipal goverment. For a long time, SIT has focused on technology innovations and their industrialization, "soft” disciplines and researches related to fragrance flavor and cosmetics are a little lagging behind. The Research Institute for Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetics Culture (FFCC) was born to cultivate the soft side. FFCC will be supportive to Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetics Culture Professional Committee under China Association of Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetic Industries (CAFFCI). FFCC was jointly initiated and managed by Collaborative Innovation Center of Fragrance Flavor and Cosmetics (CICFFC) and School of Economics and Management (SEM) at SIT, SEM is responsible for the daily management of FFCC.
Due to his job duties, the head of FFCC has been devoted to the practice of culture and tourism consumption and cosmetics consumption in recent years, and has been teaching the general course like Cosmetic Consumption and Safety to students and the public, so he is very happy to see culture and aromatization going hand in hand. As an object to be consumed, culture contains a wide range of "products", but FFCC is focused on the culture of liberal arts, the culture of innovation, and the culture of branding and consumption about fragrance flavor and comestics, which correspond to the practices and theoretical summaries of the society, enterprises (including universities, scientific research institutes, etc.), products (meaning generations, communicative symbols, etc.), and the consumers respectively in relation to fragrance flavor and cosmetics. The aims of FFCC are to publicize the culture of “truth, goodness and beauty” digested from fragrance flavor and cosmetics, summarize the cultural inheritance and innovation practices of industrial enterprises of fragrance flavor and cosmetics, enpower the development of Shanghai key industry “fashionable and high-end consumer goods industry”, and enrich and improve the relevant disciplines and talent training system at SIT.
The impact of sci-tech innovations on human society represented by AI has been accelerating, the boundary between reality and virtuality is more and more blurred, and the social connecting under the logic of algorithm in social media platforms tends to alienate human behavior. In this context, more than ever, we need energizing of culture, homing of the soul, and nourishing of truth, goodness and beauty. Moreover, traditional research perspectives and methods are experiencing the surging challenges brought about by scientific and technological innovations, and traditional social sciences professionals must embrace “expertise, industry, and future-oriented” in order to secure a place in the future. We hope that FFCC will attract and gather professionals and talents to join us in this endeavor.
